A Personal Letter for my Family in Blue

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the death of Officer Carr.

My name is Melissa Smith and I have worked for LMDC for 19 years in Classification. I am also a Marriage and Family Therapist associate and own a counseling business, Life In Motion. Most importantly I am one of you! I am married to an officer, Jason Smith; my friends are officers and I work alongside officers. My heart bleeds blue!

I started my own business to give back to first responders and to help people with their journey.

Suicide should never be a part of the journey! Unfortunately, it is. Being close to officers, veterans, and military personnel; I know the stigma associated with mental health, depression and emotions. With that in mind, I have put a group of therapists together that have graciously volunteered to give any coworker or family member affected by the death of Officer Carr, 4 free counseling sessions. This is in no way associated with LMDC, administration or Metro government and is completely confidential. Administration, coworkers, your health insurance or anyone else will not be made privy that you have sought help! You can contact me @ 502.438.6460 or my business partner, Cheryl Gilbert @ 502.608.8581. You can also go to our website @ LifeInMotionKentucky.com for more resources, to email or chat with us.

Please do not do this alone. We need each other to make it through!

With great sadness,

~ Melissa
